Dead Cold – Book Review REBLOG

Author name: Jennifer Chase

Name of the book: Dead Cold

Genre of the book: crime, thriller, suspense, mystery, police procedural, action,

Book synopsis: What happens when one California community has a disturbing spike in homicides? It catapults cops into a deadly game of murder. Frozen human body parts hideously displayed at the crime scenes offers a horrifying interpretation that only a sadistic serial killer could design—and execute.

On the hunt for a complex serial killer, vigilante detective Emily Stone must face her most daring case yet. Stone’s proven top-notch profiling skills and forensic expertise may not be enough this time.

Young and ambitious, Detective Danny Starr catches the homicide cases and discovers that it will test everything he knows about police work and the criminal mind. Can he handle these escalating cases or will the police department have to call in reinforcements—the FBI.

Emily Stone’s covert team pushes with extreme urgency to unravel the grisly clues, while keeping their identities hidden from the police. With one last-ditch effort, Stone dangles someone she loves as bait to draw out the killer. She then forces the killer out of their comfort zone with her partner Rick Lopez, and with help from a longtime friend Jordan Smith. A revelation of the serial killer’s identity leaves the team with volatile emotions that could destroy them.

The killer continues to taunt and expertly manipulate the police, as well as Stone’s team, and as they run out of time—they leave behind everyone and everything—in Dead Cold.

Book review: Jennifer Chase’s Dead Cold is the sixth of her Emily Stone thrillers, with a seventh in the pipeline. Emily and her partner, Rick Lopez, are ex law enforcement officers who’ve decided that rather than deal with the humdrum of everyday law enforcement, with its highs and lows — thrills and spills one minute, acute boredom the next — they’d ditch the routine and become 24/7 thrill-a-minute good guys, superheroes almost, tracking down villains, solving crimes, leaving the local cops to claim the glory of yet another mysteriously solved felony.

In this episode, a Californian community is beset by a disturbing spike in gruesome homicides. There’s a serial killer out there who not only ensnares and tortures victims, but cuts them into neat sections and displays them in a macabre formation for all to see. The local police are flummoxed, with Detective Danny Starr doing his best, but being thwarted at every turn by one of the cleverest killers he has ever come across. Enter Emily Stone and her partner, Rick, and this time they enlist the assistance of a friend, Jordan. Together the intrepid trio sets out to track down the killer. And this time it’s easier said than done.

Dead Cold is not for those with weak hearts or nervous dispositions. Every page will have your heart pumping so much you’ll feel like you’re running a marathon. The story gets off to a cracking start in the prologue with high-speed action from the first line. Jennifer Chase introduces us to real, three-dimensional characters, those with whom you can empathize, those you can love, hate, root for. Chapters aren’t numbered but rather they are headed with a date and time, a device which helps to keep up the frenetic pace throughout the story. The writing is visual so, as you flip through the pages, it will feel like you’re watching a movie and as the story is multi-layered, you won’t lose interest.

The concept itself is unique. Most American thrillers involve police officers, FBI agents, spies, or private detectives, not people working clandestinely and happy to allow regular law enforcers to take all the credit. So, if you’re an adrenaline junkie, put on your seat belt and start reading. When you get to the end, if you’re not already familiar with this author’s work, you’ll be taking note of her name and reaching for another Emily Stone adventure.

Card Meaning

In the deepest reaches of space, a strong celestial bird grips a comet as it hurtles through space, bringing light to the darkness and burning through all of the clouds and obstacles in its pathway. Nothing can stand in its way, as it charges forward, a force of nature that is absolute on its journey.

When this card appears in a reading, it is advising you that the time has come for careful, logical, thought and objectivity.

An opportunity for a new way of thinking, a deeper understanding and clarity is being offered to you. To reach it, you need to cut away all the “fluff” and nonsense that is confusing the issue and make ethical, honest thinking your priority.

Do not let emotions cloud the issue, but instead rely upon cold, hard facts. Analyze the situation carefully, think things through and get right to the heart of the matter. Allow yourself the chance to reach your “eureka” moment – the lightbulb that chases away the shadows and lets you see clearly, guiding you effortlessly into a new way of seeing things, and knowing what you need to do

I’d Really Love To See You Tonight”
(originally by England Dan & John Ford Coley)

Hello, yeah it’s been awhile
Not much how ’bout you?
I’m not sure why I called
Guess I really just wanted to talk to you

And I was thinking maybe later on
We could get together for awhile
It’s been such a long time
And I really do miss your smile

I’m not talking ’bout movin’ in
And I don’t want to change your life
But there’s a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I’d really love to see you tonight

We could go walking through a windy park
Or take a drive along the beach
Or stay a home and watch TV
You see it really doesn’t matter much to me

I’m not talking ’bout movin’ in
And I don’t want to change your life
But there’s a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I’d really love to see you tonight

I won’t ask for promises
So you won’t have to lie
We’ve both played this game before
Say I love you
Say goodbye

I’m not talking ’bout movin’ in
And I don’t want to change your life
But there’s a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I’d really love to see you tonight

I’m not talking ’bout movin’ in
And I don’t want to change your life
But there’s a warm wind blowing the stars around
And I’d really love to see you tonight

Card of the Day – The Lovers – Sunday, February 4, 2018

POSTED ON  UPDATED ON

Relationships and choices are on the agenda today. It is, after all, eclipse season, so all types of relationship matters will be coming to the forefront. The choices, however, may not be as imminent, and today may be a better day for reviewing them. With this card, it is always a good idea to review the patterns involved in your choices. You know the old saying, “If you keep on doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep on getting what you’re getting”. It speaks volumes. Recognize those patterns in your choices and how they have led you to this place…this moment. You see what I am saying? The time has come to choose differently, but you will need to wait until after the New Moon Partial Solar Eclipse in Aquarius passes to be able to make a more informed choice.

I also need to mention that today is Superbowl Sunday, and a vast majority of the world is rooting for the Underdogs, the Philadelphia Eagles. If you are watching, take the time to see what the Universe has up its sleeve. I chose today’s Lovers card long before the Eagles even won the championship, but there is still no coincidence that it is one with birds. Just sayin’. #goeagles #flyeaglesfly

Stop the Slip by Thom Disch Book Review

2018_10 likes 2018 new blog wordpress

Did you know that the #1 Cause of Emergency room visits is trips and falls? Me either! This is not an exaggeration. I read books because I like to share information and also to spread the author’s words of wisdom. If I learn one thing from a book it is worthy of sharing. Look at the data the author says:
The number of people injured and dying from falls is at record numbers
and the problem is growing. Using data from 2014, compiled from the Centers
for Disease Control database, reveal the true scope of the problem:
• Falls kill three times more people in the United States than firearms
and seven times more people than the flu (see Figure 2.3).
• Falls are the number one reason for emergency room visits every year
(see Chapter 2, “Why Slips, Trips, and Falls Aren’t Taken Seriously”
and Figure 2.2).
• Falls cost the US economy over $150 billion per year in medical costs
and lost wages (see Chapter 19, “The Cost of Slips, Trips, and Falls”).
• Falls are the number one cause of traumatic brain injury, resulting in
four times more injuries than sports (see Factoid #2).
12 STOP THE SLIP
• In 2014, falls caused nine million emergency room visits, one million
hospitalizations, and thirty thousand deaths (see Chapter 2, “Why
Slips, Trips, and Falls Aren’t Taken Seriously”).
• Falls aren’t just a problem for the elderly: 25 percent of fall injuries
happen to children and 75 percent happen to people under age 68 (see
Chapter 4, “Age and Falls”).
• Even though we promote fall safety and prevention for our elderly, the
rate at which our elderly die from falls has doubled in the last fifteen
years (see Chapter 24, “The ALERT System for Reducing Fall Injuries
and Deaths”).

Acronym: A-L-E-R-T to remind us of the five steps we can take that will
reduce the number of falls and fall injuries.
A -Awareness is the first and most important step in preventing STF injuries.
Be alert when you’re in higher-risk situations. Create a mental
STF warning system.
L- Learn what you can do to prevent a fall accident. Most fall STF injuries
happen in the places we know the best: our bathroom, our
kitchen, our stairs, and so on. This happens because we’re in our
comfort zone, our guard is down, and we’re not paying attention.
E- Early awareness, early prevention, and early training will lead to
fewer STF injuries for everyone. Fall injuries cause a high percentage
of emergency room visits at all ages. Starting the process of avoiding
a fall when you are younger will reduce the risk of serious fall injuries
when you are older. Start early!
R- React to what you’ve learned. If you see a STF hazard, correct that
it. Do it right when you encounter the risk or problem. Don’t
count on your memory or your ability to react to a STF problem in
the moment.
T- Train your body and improve your balance. Train your mind to be
aware of STF situations. Train your family. Train your friends. Train
your co-workers.

This book is for those that want to find out from Thom Dish how to find
useful digitial tools, new information, breaking true stories, and trends and statistics to help prevent slips and falls.

What a powerful week we have in store!

Full Moons always garner a great deal of attention, but this one comes with a great deal of hype. On the 31st, we will have a Full Moon Total Lunar Eclipse in the sign of Leo. Pretty much, one would have to be living under a rock, to not have heard it mentioned in some way. It will also be a Supermoon, meaning it will be exceptionally close to the earth, and it will be a Blue Moon, meaning it is the second Full Moon of the calendar month. That is quite a mouthful when you try to fit all those adjectives in one sentence. Only a few short minutes after the Full Moon is exact, Mercury will move into the sign of Aquarius. Alinka Rutkowska takes her passion to help others. Have you wondered how leaders become successful in companies?  Richard Branson said that there is no greater thing you can do with your life and your work than follow your passion to serve the world and others around you.  “Leadership is about inspiring people to want to do something bigger than they could by themselves. That includes me.  I’m inspired by certain leaders who actually make our thinking bigger. You want to go and do something, and achieve a higher purpose than what you immediately could think of. Being with the right leader broadens your horizons. I think that we all can learn from reading books whether they are old or new. This book, talks about CEO’s and gives names, companies and their success or failures.  Each story I have read in “supreme leadership” gave me lessons worthy taking notes for myself.  This book is a must read for anyone who is or wants to be a true leader. It’s new, fresh and the stories are supreme. Supreme Leadership will change you and the people you surround yourself with if you read it and use the very practical examples.
